UC DAVIS, UOP ORCHESTRAS TO PLAY SIBELIUS AND IVES: The ΢²ªÊÓƵ and the University of the Pacific symphony orchestras are scheduled to present a joint concert starting at 8 p.m. Feb. 10 in Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts.
The ΢²ªÊÓƵ orchestra by itself, conducted by the orchestra's director, D. Kern Holoman, is planning to perform Jean Sibelius' Violin Concerto, with Dan Flanagan on violin.
The ΢²ªÊÓƵ and UOP orchestras together are planning to perform two works by Charles Ives: The Unanswered Question and Symphony No. 4, with ΢²ªÊÓƵ' University Chorus participating in the latter. Nicolas Waldvogel, UOP Symphony Orchestra director, is set to conduct both Ives selections.
NEW CHOREOGRAPHY: "An exciting evening of new choreography" is promised with Shadowlight, described by the Department of Theatre and Dance an an exploration of ideas about passion, love, desire and the shifting relationships between personal experience, meaning, construction and loss.
Shadowlight, with choreography by Marija Krtolica and Randee Paufve, graduating master of fine arts degree candidates, is scheduled to be presented at 8 p.m. Feb. 14 (preview) and Feb. 15-16 and 21-23, and 2 p.m. Feb. 24, in the Studio Theatre at the Mondavi Center.
FROM RUSSIA, WITH BALLET: The St. Petersburg Ballet Theatre is due at the Mondavi Center in mid-February for two productions: Russian Seasons on Feb. 15 and Romeo and Juliet on Feb. 16, with a starting time of 8 o'clock both nights.
