BARBARA JACKSON: SODERQUIST AWARD

The ΢Ƶ Foundation on May 9 announced Barbara K. Jackson, center, as the recipient of the Charles J. Soderquist Award. She is flanked here by Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef and Meg Stallard, chair of the ΢Ƶ Foundation board of trustees. In honoring Jackson, the foundation noted her more than 50 years of philanthropy and volunteer service on behalf of ΢Ƶ. She serves now as a trustee emerita of the ΢Ƶ Foundation. Jackson and her husband, W. Turrentine “Turpie” Jackson, a renowned scholar of the American West, came to Davis in 1951. Before and after Turpie’s death, the couple’s contributions to ΢Ƶ amount to more than $6 million. The money has benefitted variety of areas, including the Symphony Orchestra, the arts presenting program, and the history and music department. They gave $5 million to establish the Barbara K. and W. Turrentine Jackson Hall at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The Soderquist award, established by the ΢Ƶ Foundation in 2005, honors the late Sacramento-area entrepreneur Charlie Soderquist for his many contributions to ΢Ƶ.
