UPDATED: Longer Detour Around Ramp Work at Hutchison and 113

Updated 7 p.m. March 24: The new cycle track will not open, as previously announced, when construction switches from the north to the south side of the Hutchison Drive overpass. Instead, bike lanes going each direction will be provided for continued bicycle travel across the overpass. In addition, the switch to the south side is now scheduled for the week of March 28. The story below has been revised to reflect these changes.

New Sidewalks and Bike Lanes Coming to West Village-Campus Corridor

΢��Ƶ is building comfort, convenience and sustainability into the Hutchison Drive commute path between ΢��Ƶ West Village and the central campus.

The project centered on the Hutchison overpass at Highway 113 calls for new sidewalks, a bike path running east on the south side of Hutchison and a 14-foot-wide two-way cycle track on the north side of Hutchison. What is a cycle track? See box below.

Bike Share Comes to Campus

JUMP Bikes have arrived — bright red and basket-equipped, with electric-assist motors — available for rent via mobile app. The Uber-owned company expanded to the city of Davis and ΢��Ƶ last week with 60 bikes, as part of a Sacramento-area launch that also includes bikes in Sacramento and West Sacramento.

The longer your commute to campus, the more likely you are to drive it alone. That’s what researchers have long found with the annual Campus Travel Survey, and that’s what Transportation Services is hoping to find ways to counteract.

“How can we reduce barriers to more sustainable commuting?” asked Eleni Jacobson, who is working on Transportation Services’ “Transportation Tomorrow” initiative to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicle trips to campus by 10 percent by the year 2027.

May is Bike Month: Track Your Bike, Get a New One, Celebrate

This week you’ll be able to increase your chances of hanging on to your bike — or get an inexpensive bike. And just in time to celebrate next week.

On Wednesday (May 3), bicyclists can get a free location tracker added to their bikes to give authorities a better chance to recover any that are stolen. And on Saturday (May 6), the university's semiannual Bike Auction will feature more than 400 bikes for sale.
