Last month, a group of academics led by a ΢��Ƶ researcher called on scientific conferences to do more to accommodate nursing mothers and parents to help normalize parenthood in academia. Now, Rebecca Calisi Rodriguez, an assistant professor of neurobiology, physiology and behavior, is explaining more about why she's embarking on the effort. ‘Maserati’ Quarter Horse Donated to Campus

The Horse Barn at the University of California, Davis, has a new resident: Al By Myself, also known as Celine, a world-show-caliber American quarter horse, donated by Bonnie Sheren with coordination from Highpoint Performance Horses.

“When it comes to quarter horses, we’ve had Cadillacs before, but not a Maserati” like Al By Myself, said Amy McLean, a lecturer and former Horse Barn manager in the Department of Animal Science. She said the 5-year-old mare’s genetics and prestige will bring a lot of notoriety to ΢��Ƶ.

Retired Faculty-Staff Couple Gives $1 Million to Create Professorship

΢��Ƶ today announced receiving a $1 million bequest from Distinguished Professor Emeritus Maury Hull and Karen Slakey Hull to endow a professorship in biomedical engineering with a research emphasis in orthopedics. The Maury L. Hull and Karen S. Hull Endowed Professorship will continue the couple’s already substantial legacy at ΢��Ƶ.

Dean Jennifer Sinclair Curtis of ΢��Ƶ’ College of Engineering expressed thanks to the Hulls, who at their retirement in 2014 had a combined career of nearly 65 years at ΢��Ƶ.

'By Philanthropy' Campaign Answers the Question: How Are Donations Used?

It’s easy to measure how much money the university raised in The Campaign for ΢��Ƶ, which ended in 2014: more than a billion dollars. It’s not so easy to demonstrate how all that money is being put to use in scholarships, endowed chairs and other less visible ways.
