With her gift to name the new Engineering Student Design Center at the University of California, Davis, the alumna and information technology executive hopes to inspire women and other underrepresented students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM; fund essential learning for aspiring engineers; and solidify her legacy as a leader in tech. She graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering.

The University of California, Davis, publicly launched a $2 billion fundraising campaign today (Oct. 9), the largest philanthropic endeavor in its history. This bold goal will propel the university’s work to prepare future leaders, sustain healthier communities, and bring innovative solutions to today’s most urgent challenges.

The campaign, “Expect Greater: From ΢��Ƶ, for the world,” will harness the power of philanthropy to address defining issues of our time such as pandemic response, climate change, public safety and more.

Record Give Day Total in Unprecedented Time

One thing we now know for sure: Donors from all corners of the ΢��Ƶ community, spanning 43 states and nine countries, do not let a public health crisis stop them from making a difference.

Given that this year’s fourth annual Give Day broke records — bringing in $2.5 million, according to preliminary data, compared with just over $2 million last year — the tremendous need may even have inspired donors to give more. The funds were raised during 29 hours, from noon Friday to 5 p.m. Saturday (April 17-18), for programs at ΢��Ƶ and ΢��Ƶ Health.

The Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Museum of Art at the University of California, Davis, will for the first time have a fund dedicated to purchasing and acquiring new art. Janet and Clint Reilly, a notable San Francisco couple with deep civic, philanthropic and business ties to the Bay Area, have pledged a $1 million family gift to establish the Janet and Clint Reilly Acquisition Fund at ΢��Ƶ.

’18-19 Fundraising 2nd Best in ΢��Ƶ History

The University of California, Davis, posted its second-highest development year ever in fiscal 2018-19, raising $234 million from 36,800 donors.

“Our fundraising success goes far beyond dollars and cents — it truly makes a positive impact on the lives of those within the ΢��Ƶ community,” Chancellor Gary S. May said.

Give Day, Employee Giving on the Upswing

Every April, Aggies are invited to celebrate the long-standing tradition of Picnic Day and strengthen ΢��Ƶ by donating on Give Day, an accompanying fundraising event benefiting all schools and colleges across the university.

The combination has proved to be a powerhouse. Give Day 2019 (April 12-13) brought in a record-setting $2 million dollars from 4,454 gifts from around ΢��Ƶ and around the world.
