Ag, Animals, Art: New Hellman Fellows Study Broad Range of Topics

A dozen early-career faculty members at ΢��Ƶ have been named to this year’s Hellman Fellowship, a program to help propel their work to the next level.

They will each receive grants from $6,000 to $50,000, for a total of $330,000 awarded this year.

Academic Affairs Vice Provost Phil Kass recently named ΢��Ƶ’ 11th class of Hellman Fellows: 11 assistant professors who received a total of $244,000 in grants for research in a wide range of disciplines.

In engineering, for example, Seongkyu Lee is researching the noise generated by electrical vertical aircraft, a mode of transportation he calls transformative and an enhancement to human life. He is working toward “quiet” operation as a way to “increase public acceptance of small-sized urban aircraft flying in heavily populated cities.”

Vice Provost Maureen Stanton, who leads Academic Affairs, has named ΢��Ƶ’ newest class of Hellman Fellows — early-career faculty members chosen to receive financial support for their research and to assist them in making progress toward tenure.

“Through the generosity of the Hellman Fellows Fund, we are assisting our next generation of faculty in their bold and innovative work, and bolstering our university’s research excellence into the future,” Stanton said.
