So three UC presidents and a chancellor walked into ... the Vanderhoef Studio Theatre, where, before an audience of about 200, they engaged in an hourlong discussion of the challenges of the presidential office, access and affordability in higher education, and more. It was the winter edition of the Chancellor’s Colloquium.

UC President Janet Napolitano spent two days at ΢��Ƶ last week, a routine campus visit during which she received research updates, met with students, and explored the university’s work in veterinary and human medicine on either side of the causeway.

Winter storms hammering the region have been good for ski resorts but bad for blood banks, which are seeing a decline in donors due to weather and illness.

This week, the ΢��Ƶ community has a chance to bolster the Northern California supply, by visiting the bloodmobiles on the Quad, Wednesday and Thursday (Jan. 18-19). Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and, as always, staff and faculty can go to the head of the line to minimize their wait times.

UC President Janet Napolitano announced today (Aug. 9) that she had accepted Linda P.B. Katehi's offer to resign as ΢��Ƶ chancellor. Later in the afternoon, Ralph J. Hexter, acting chancellor since April 27, issued the following statement:

“Today’s news ends a period of uncertainty at ΢��Ƶ. The resolution announced by President Napolitano permits us to focus all our efforts on moving the campus forward so that we can serve California, the nation and the world ever more effectively.”
