Dive into Summer with Campus Recreation Aquatics Programs

Take a splash and beat the heat by exploring the various aquatic programs that the ΢��Ƶ Rec Pool has to offer this summer — some new, some old and some improved.

The ΢��Ƶ Campus Recreation Aquatics Unit will be offering a revamped version of their yearly summer youth swim lessons.

Nick Tyler renewed his mandatory CPR and AED, or automated external defibrillator, certifications just two days before he met Bill Cocke at the ARC.

Good thing, we can all agree.

In January when Cocke, then 70, was working out and his heart stopped, Tyler was one of three Campus Recreation student employees who came to the rescue.

“It was so fresh and so perfect,” Tyler, a rising junior from Novato, California, said about his CPR knowledge and the timing of the recertification course.

Veteran Students, Horses Partner in Care at ΢��Ƶ

΢��Ƶ student and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Edgar Garcia brushed the hair along a horse’s neck, back and sides. Here, grooming was more than preparation for riding — it was an age-old ritual bonding human and horse in trust and care.

Garcia is one of the early participants in a new program that pairs student veterans with horses to help them get involved in campus life and enjoy much needed relaxation.
