Doctors learning to perform fetal heart surgery need only look to the grocery store for practice materials.

Frank Ing, chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at ΢��Ƶ Children’s Hospital, uses grapes embedded in tubs of gelatin to give would-be surgeons a way to learn fetal heart intervention.

Using ultrasound, the students find the “heart” in the gelatin and practice inserting a needle. See how the procedure works in the above video.

΢��Ƶ faculty and staff laced up their comfortable shoes and hit the pavement last week for UC Walks, an annual event held on various dates around the UC system. On the Davis campus (May 31) and the Sacramento campus (May 17), participants had the opportunity to try out the university's new walking loops.

This campus was made for walking, and that’s just what we’ll do — on four 1-mile loops newly marked with colorful buttons on pavement and concrete, one loop in each campus district: Quad, Pavilion, Health Sciences and Gateway.
