Updated: Asbestos Removal at Construction Site

Update 11:30 a.m. Dec. 6: Workers completed the first phase of soil removal Dec. 3.

Soil at the site of the new large lecture hall on California Avenue has been found to contain naturally occurring asbestos. Contractors and ΢��Ƶ employees are carrying out air monitoring around the site and preparing to remove soil for appropriate disposal. Most of the work will take place over winter break, after Dec. 9.

Surge III Renamed The Grove

At some point during your time at ΢��Ƶ, it’s likely you’ve encountered Surge III. Located in the center of campus, a block down from the Silo, Surge III has been composed of a variety of departments, programs and classrooms.

Surge III was originally purchased in 1966, as a temporary building to accommodate the surge of students from the School of Medicine and has since housed a range of other departments, such as Undergraduate Education, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and two general assignment classrooms.
